Compare live BMW 5 Series lease deals below from an independent, whole of market broker. A saloon or Touring estate, with a mild hybrid petrol and two plug-in hybrids covering up to 64 miles on electricity. See the electric i5, the 3 Series, or the rest of the BMW range.
The 5 Series has been the default choice for people who drive for a living for about forty years, and the current one is the largest and best equipped version there has been. It is available as a saloon or a Touring estate, and the Touring in particular is one of the genuinely useful large estates left on sale.
One detail that deserves more credit than it gets: the saloon's boot is 520 litres whether you choose the petrol or a plug-in hybrid. On most cars the plug-in version gives up a chunk of boot to its battery. Here it does not, which removes the usual reason to avoid the hybrid.
All are automatic. And there is no diesel: the UK 5 Series range has no 520d in it any more, which catches out a lot of people who have driven one for years.
Here is the bit worth being honest about, because it follows from that. If you cannot charge at home or at work, your only option is the 520i, and a 208bhp petrol in a car this large and this heavy is the least suitable engine in the range for serious mileage. It is perfectly pleasant around town and on shorter runs. It is not what you want if you are doing 25,000 miles a year on motorways. In that situation, tell us, because a plug-in hybrid you genuinely cannot charge is the wrong answer too and there are better cars for that job in other ranges.
520 litres of boot, the same on petrol and plug-in hybrid. The quieter looking of the two and still the bigger seller.
560 litres seats up and 1,700 litres folded. If you ever carry anything awkward, this is the one, and the penalty day to day is close to nothing.
The two trims in the UK range. M Sport Pro adds larger wheels, a boot spoiler and an illuminated grille surround. Worth driving both, since wheel size affects the ride.
Equipment moves between model years, so tell us what you need on the car and we will check it against the specification you are quoted rather than going by the trim name alone.
The i5 is the fully electric 5 Series, and it is a separate model with its own page. The two look similar and share a great deal, but they are not versions of the same car and their figures are different.
Take the 5 Series if you want a plug-in hybrid that can fall back on petrol, or if you cannot charge reliably. Take the i5 if you can charge and your longer journeys are occasional rather than constant. For a company car driver both sit well on benefit in kind, with the fully electric i5 lower still, and bands change each tax year so take the current figures from your accountant. Our leasing guides cover term and mileage, and business leasing explains the company position.

Not in the UK. There is no 520d in the current range, which surprises a lot of people who have driven one for years. The UK line-up is the 520i mild hybrid petrol and the 530e and 550e xDrive plug-in hybrids. A diesel exists in some other European markets but is not sold here.
Three. The 520i, a 208bhp petrol with 48 volt mild hybrid assistance. The 530e, a 299bhp plug-in hybrid with a 64 mile WLTP electric range. And the 550e xDrive, a 489bhp plug-in hybrid with all wheel drive. All are automatic.
Up to 64 miles on the WLTP test, from a 22.1kWh battery. That covers most ordinary weeks without the engine running, provided you can charge. The 550e xDrive uses the same battery.
520 litres in the saloon, and the plug-in hybrids do not lose any of it, which is unusual and worth knowing. The Touring is 560 litres with the seats up and 1,700 litres with them folded.
The i5 is the fully electric version and a separate model with its own page. They share a great deal and look similar, but the figures differ and they are not the same car. Choose the 5 Series for a plug-in hybrid that can run on petrol, and the i5 if you can charge reliably.
M Sport and M Sport Pro. M Sport Pro adds larger wheels, a boot spoiler and an illuminated grille surround. Worth driving both if you can, because wheel size has a real effect on the ride.
The 520i, because it is the only version that does not need plugging in. Be realistic though: a 208bhp petrol in a car this size is the least suitable engine in the range for high motorway mileage. If that describes your driving, tell us and we will look at alternatives in other ranges rather than sell you a plug-in hybrid you cannot plug in.
LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each prices the same car.
