The Citroen Holidays Campervan
This is one of the most interesting things any mainstream brand sells, and almost nobody knows it exists. The Holidays is a full campervan conversion built on the Citroen SpaceTourer by Bravia Mobil, and sold through the Citroen retail network rather than a specialist converter, which is what makes it leasable in the normal way.
The pop-up roof is standard and gives standing headroom inside. There are up to four sleeping spaces, two in the roof and two on the sliding rear bench, which is also removable. The kitchen has a stainless steel sink, two gas burners, a 16 litre fridge and a retractable table. There are 10 litre fresh and waste water tanks, an outdoor shower with its own 25 litre tank, a removable toilet, programmable Webasto heating, a 230V mains inlet and a solar panel on the roof.
In the UK it comes with the 2.0 litre BlueHDi 180hp diesel and the eight speed EAT8 automatic, which is the right combination for a vehicle this size. If you have been pricing up campervans elsewhere, it is well worth comparing this against a specialist conversion, because leasing one through the manufacturer network is a very different proposition.
What the Ami Actually Is
Citroen is refreshingly direct about this: the Ami is not a car. It is a light quadricycle in the L6E category, closer in law to a moped or a scooter than to anything else on this page, though it does have a roof, doors and seatbelts.
The numbers: a top speed of 27.9 mph, a range of up to 46 miles, and around four hours to charge. It has no fast charging, and it charges from standard UK public points using the Type 2 adaptor supplied.
On licensing, most people will use a full UK category B car licence. A motorbike licence also covers it, either category AM for mopeds and scooters or a full category A. A provisional car licence is not sufficient, which is worth checking before you order rather than after. You may have seen the Ami described as a vehicle teenagers can drive, and that is true in France but not under UK rules. For short urban trips or as a second vehicle it is a delight. For anything involving a fast road, it is the wrong tool.
Choosing Your Trim and Powertrain
Citroen keeps its trim structure short, which is a mercy. On the C3 the grades are PLUS and MAX, with the petrol car in PLUS and the electric e-C3 in both. Grades vary a little between models, so check the specific car you are quoting. Because Advanced Comfort seats and suspension are standard throughout, the higher grade buys you equipment rather than the comfort, which is the opposite of how most ranges work.
On powertrains, Citroen uses an e- prefix for its fully electric cars, so an e-C3 is the electric version of a C3. The petrol models use the PureTech engines, there are hybrid options across much of the range, and the electric cars suit anyone who can charge at home.
One thing worth checking before you settle on a quote: some Citroen petrol models come with a manual gearbox rather than an automatic, including the PureTech C3 in PLUS trim. If an automatic matters to you, the electric versions are automatic by nature.
