Why Lease a Genesis GV70?

Because it is a very well made premium SUV that almost nobody buys, and that works in your favour on a lease. The Electrified GV70 gives you 490PS, up to 298 miles of range, charging at up to 257kW and a 503 litre boot, with an interior most people rate above the German equivalents on materials alone.

It also comes with five years of scheduled servicing included, which is a real cost removed rather than a sweetener. Against other badges, the Audi Q6 and the BMW iX3 are the two electric SUVs most people weigh against it, and neither includes the servicing.

Can You Still Get a Petrol or Diesel GV70?

Not as a new order. This is the single most useful thing on this page and almost no comparison site mentions it. Since January 2025 Genesis UK has taken new orders on electric cars only. The petrol and diesel GV70, along with the petrol and diesel G70 and GV80, were discontinued for the UK market at that point.

What makes this genuinely confusing is that Genesis UK's own website still carries a combustion GV70 page, complete with a configurator link, so you can read about a 304PS 2.5 turbo petrol and a 201PS 2.2 diesel and reasonably conclude you can order one. You cannot. If you have been quoted a petrol or diesel GV70 by anyone, ask them to confirm it in writing before you go any further, and send it to us and we will check it against the funder feeds. If what you actually wanted was a petrol premium SUV of this size, say so and we will put the BMW X3 and the Range Rover Evoque alongside it instead rather than waste your time.

Which Genesis GV70 Should You Choose?

Trim Battery Range Power 0 to 62
Pure84kWh298 miles490PS4.4s
Dynamic84kWh287 miles490PS4.4s
Luxury84kWh287 miles490PS4.4s

There is one powertrain and three trims, which makes this one of the simpler premium SUVs to specify. Every version is four wheel drive, every version has the same 84kWh battery and the same 490PS, and the 4.4 second 0 to 62mph time is measured in Boost mode. Option packs cover Vehicle-to-Load, Nappa leather, Comfort and Serenity.

The only figure that moves between trims is range, and it moves for a reason worth knowing. Pure is rated at 298 miles and both Dynamic and Luxury at 287, because Dynamic brings 20 inch wheels. So the entry trim is the long range car, which is the opposite of how most people assume it works. Our pick is Pure if range is what you care about and Luxury if the interior is, with Dynamic making most sense if you want the look and can live with the eleven miles. One note if you are comparing quotes: some leasing sites still list 77kWh Sport derivatives of this car, which are the pre-facelift version with less range and slower charging. Those are not what you can order now.

The 257kW charging rate is the number that does the most work here. It takes the car from 10 to 80 per cent in around nineteen minutes on a fast enough charger, which means the 298 mile range matters less than it would on a slower charging car: you stop for less time than you would expect. The 503 litre boot is competitive for the class and 1,678 litres with the seats folded is generous, and unlike many electric conversions of combustion cars the GV70 does not lose a meaningful amount of space to its battery.

What Genesis Includes With the Car

This is where Genesis differs from the German brands, and on a lease it is worth money because it removes costs you would otherwise pay separately.

  • Genesis 5 Year Care Plan. Scheduled servicing and inspections covered at no charge using genuine parts, for five years or 50,000 miles.
  • Collection and return at no extra cost when a service is due, at home or at work, within 30 miles of a Genesis Studio or Retail Partner. Warranty work too.
  • Five years of roadside assistance.
  • Navigation map updates and the My Genesis app for remote functions such as pre-conditioning.

The thing to check rather than assume is the 30 mile radius. Genesis has around fourteen UK locations, so a lot of the country falls outside the area where collection and return applies, and it is worth confirming your postcode before counting it as part of the deal. The current Care Plan also does not mention a courtesy car, although some older coverage of the brand described one, so if that matters ask us to get it confirmed in writing rather than relying on an article.

How Safe Is the Genesis GV70?

The GV70 holds a five star Euro NCAP rating from December 2021, with 89 per cent for adult occupant protection, 87 per cent for child occupant protection and 87 per cent for safety assistance. The weakest of the four was 64 per cent for vulnerable road user protection.

Two qualifications, because we would rather you had them than a bare star count. The car Euro NCAP tested was a 2.5 petrol in left hand drive, and the electric variant its rating formally extends to is a 71.4kWh car, not today's 84kWh version. The structure and the safety equipment are shared, so this is not a cause for concern, but the rating does not explicitly cover the car you would be leasing. The 2021 test date matters too, since Euro NCAP's protocols have tightened considerably since then, so a five star from 2021 is a lower bar than a five star awarded recently.

Leasing a Genesis GV70

Two numbers drive most of your monthly cost: the initial rental and your annual mileage. A larger initial rental brings the monthly figure down, and your mileage sets the contract, so give us the honest number. Excess mileage is charged at the end and on a premium SUV it adds up.

A fully electric premium SUV is a strong case for business leasing and salary sacrifice, because electric company cars attract far lower Benefit in Kind company car tax than petrol or diesel, and the saving grows with the value of the car. Rates are set per tax year and rise on a published schedule, so check the current figure before you commit. We are a credit broker rather than a tax adviser, so your accountant should confirm your own position.

Two honest points about the brand, because they bear on a long contract. The UK is one of only three European Genesis markets and the range here has been reduced, with the G70 and GV80 no longer imported. And Genesis has indicated that hybrid and extended range models are coming later this decade, so a four year agreement starting now would be returning the car around the time a replacement generation arrives. On a lease neither of those is your problem: the funder carries the residual value risk, not you, and you hand the car back whatever the used market has decided. That protection is worth more on a low volume brand than on a mainstream one, and it is the main reason we would lease this car rather than buy it.

Genesis GV70 Leasing FAQs

No. Genesis UK has taken new orders on electric cars only since January 2025, and the petrol and diesel GV70 were discontinued for the UK at that point. Genesis UK's website still carries a combustion GV70 page with a configurator link, which is why the question keeps coming up, but it is not a car you can order new.

Up to 298 miles in Pure trim and 287 miles in Dynamic and Luxury, from an 84kWh battery. The difference is wheel size: Dynamic brings 20 inch wheels, which costs range. All three are official WLTP figures.

Pure, Dynamic and Luxury. All three share the same 84kWh battery, the same 490PS and four wheel drive, so the choice is about equipment and wheels rather than performance. Option packs cover Vehicle-to-Load, Nappa leather, Comfort and Serenity.

360kW, which Genesis quotes as 490PS, driving all four wheels, with 0 to 62mph in 4.4 seconds in Boost mode and a top speed of 146mph. Some sources print 490bhp for the same car, which is a unit error: 360kW is 490PS or about 483bhp.

It accepts up to 257kW on a DC charger, taking it from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as nineteen minutes on a 350kW unit. That is among the quicker rates in the class and it matters more than the range figure for anyone doing long journeys.

503 litres with the rear seats up and 1,678 litres with them folded, which is competitive for a premium SUV of this size. Unlike some electric versions of combustion cars, the GV70 does not give up a meaningful amount of load space to its battery.

It holds a five star Euro NCAP rating from December 2021, with 89 per cent for adult occupant protection and 64 per cent for vulnerable road users. The car tested was a 2.5 petrol in left hand drive, and the electric variant the rating formally extends to is a 71.4kWh version rather than today's 84kWh car. Euro NCAP's protocols have also tightened since 2021.

Yes, up to 1,800kg braked. Expect a substantial reduction in range while towing, as with any electric car. Check the figure for your specific trailer against the vehicle's own plated weights before you commit.

Scheduled servicing and inspections for five years or 50,000 miles under the Genesis 5 Year Care Plan, collection and return of the car when a service is due within 30 miles of a Genesis site, five years of roadside assistance, navigation map updates and the My Genesis app. The battery is warranted for eight years or 120,000 miles with 70 per cent of capacity guaranteed.

Because they are listing the pre-facelift car. The earlier Electrified GV70 used a 77kWh battery with less range and a lower charging rate, and those derivatives still sit in some data feeds alongside the current 84kWh Pure, Dynamic and Luxury. If a quote mentions 77kWh or a Sport trim, it is describing the older version.

As a fully electric car it sits in a far lower Benefit in Kind company car tax band than a petrol or diesel SUV of the same size, and the saving grows with the value of the car. Five years of included servicing helps the total cost too. Rates are set per tax year and rise on a published schedule, so check the current figure and have your accountant confirm your own position.

LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each of them prices the same car.
