Why Lease a Lexus RZ?

Because the 2026 update fixed the thing that held it back. The RZ now has a 77kWh battery and up to 346 miles of range, where the car it replaced fell well short of that, and it keeps the 22kW onboard AC charger that is one of the most genuinely useful specifications on any electric car. Most rivals offer 11kW, so on a three phase supply the RZ charges in half the time.

It is also the only fully electric Lexus sold in the UK now that the UX 300e has gone, and there is a 522 litre boot that is the same size whichever version you choose. Against other badges, the BMW iX3 and the Tesla Model Y are the two most people weigh against it.

All three use the same 77kWh battery, charge at up to 150kW on DC and 22kW on AC, and have the same 522 litre boot. So the choice is about power, driven wheels and how much range you are willing to give up for them.

Our pick for most people is the 350e. It has 59 miles more range than the 550e and 40 more than the 500e, and 224hp with 7.5 seconds to 62mph is perfectly brisk for a family SUV. The 500e is the one to choose if you want all wheel drive or need to tow, since it is the only RZ rated to pull 1,500kg. The 550e is the enthusiast's choice and you should know what it costs you: the shortest range in the range, no towing capability at all, and a steering system you cannot opt out of.

The Steering Yoke Comes Only on the 550e

This is the thing people most want to know about the RZ and the answer is clear cut. Steer by wire, with the aircraft style yoke in place of a wheel, is standard on the 550e and is not available on the 350e or the 500e. It is not a cost option on the 550e either, so if you order an F Sport or F Sport Takumi you are getting the yoke, and if you order anything else you are getting a conventional wheel.

There is no mechanical connection between the yoke and the front wheels, and the steering ratio varies so you never need to cross your hands, which is what makes a yoke workable at all. The 550e also gets Interactive Manual Drive as standard, a simulated eight speed gearbox with paddles that gives an electric car something to do with your hands. Reaction to both is genuinely divided, and because they are tied to one version you cannot try the yoke and then order the cheaper car with it. If you are interested, drive a 550e before you commit rather than after.

The 22kW AC charger is the RZ's best party trick and it is worth more day to day than the headline range. Where most electric cars accept 11kW, the RZ takes 22, which halves the time on a three phase supply. It only pays off if you have access to one, so a home charger on a single phase domestic supply will not see the benefit, but at work, a hotel or a destination charger it genuinely does.

The honest counterpoint is the rapid charging. 150kW is middling for a 77kWh battery in 2026, where several rivals of this size now take 250kW or more, so on a long motorway run the RZ will be plugged in longer than the newest competition. That is the trade off: the RZ is better than almost anything at the slow charging most people actually do, and behind the curve on the fast charging people worry about. One other thing worth knowing: range moves with wheel size, so the 346 mile figure belongs to a 350e on 18 inch wheels and the same car on 20s is nearer 315. The 550e comes on 20s only, which is most of why its figure is 287.

Watch Out for Older RZ 450e Figures

The RZ you can order now is not the car most of the internet is describing. Until the 2026 update it was sold as the RZ 450e with a smaller battery and considerably less range, and that version has gone from Lexus's own configurator. Some leasing sites still carry 450e pages. On top of that, Lexus published provisional range figures in October 2025 that were slightly higher than the final homologated numbers, and those provisional figures are still widely republished: you will see 353 miles quoted for the 350e where the official figure is 346, and 280 for the 550e where it is 287. Everything on this page is taken from Lexus UK's current published data. If a quote in front of you says 450e, or quotes a range we do not, send it over and we will tell you which car it is.

How Safe Is the Lexus RZ?

The RZ holds a five star Euro NCAP rating awarded in 2023, with 87 per cent for adult occupant protection, 87 per cent for child occupant protection, 84 per cent for vulnerable road users and 81 per cent for safety assistance.

One qualification belongs with that, and you will not find it on many pages. The car Euro NCAP tested was the pre-update RZ 450e with its smaller battery, and Euro NCAP has not published a new assessment for the 2026 car. The structure and the safety equipment carry over, so this is not a concern, but it does mean the rating belongs to the earlier version and we are not going to attach it to a specific derivative you can order today as though that car had been crashed. We give the test year with every rating on this site, because Euro NCAP's protocols tighten over time and a 2023 five star is a different bar from a 2019 one.

Leasing a Lexus RZ

Two numbers drive most of your monthly cost: the initial rental and your annual mileage. A larger initial rental brings the monthly figure down, and the mileage you choose sets the contract. Excess mileage is charged at the end, so give us the real number.

A fully electric car is the strongest case there is for business leasing and salary sacrifice, because electric company cars attract far lower Benefit in Kind company car tax than petrol or diesel and the saving grows with the value of the car. Within the Lexus range this is the car that makes that case: the hybrids are in much higher bands. Rates are set per tax year and rise on a published schedule, so check the current figure. We are a credit broker rather than a tax adviser, so your accountant should confirm your own position. Our electric against petrol comparison works through the running costs.

One reason leasing suits this car in particular. It has just been substantially updated barely three years into its life, which tells you the first version did not land as Lexus hoped, and that is the sort of thing used values remember. On a lease the funder carries that risk rather than you. Our guide to electric car residual values explains how it gets priced in.

Lexus RZ Leasing FAQs

Up to 346 miles on the 350e, up to 306 on the 500e and up to 287 on the 550e, all from the same 77kWh battery. The difference comes from power and wheel size rather than the battery, and the 346 mile figure belongs to a 350e on 18 inch wheels.

The 550e only, in F Sport and F Sport Takumi grades, where steer by wire with the yoke is standard. It is not available on the 350e or the 500e at any price, and it is not an option you can decline on the 550e. The 550e also gets Interactive Manual Drive, a simulated eight speed with paddles.

It was replaced when the RZ was substantially updated for 2026, which brought a larger 77kWh battery, new outputs and the 350e, 500e and 550e naming. The 450e has gone from Lexus's configurator, though some leasing sites still carry pages for it.

Up to 150kW on a DC rapid charger and up to 22kW on AC. The 22kW AC figure is unusually generous, as most rivals accept 11kW, so on a three phase supply the RZ charges in roughly half the time. The 150kW DC rate is middling for a car of this size in 2026.

The 500e and 550e are, using Lexus's DIRECT4 system. The 350e is front wheel drive. If you want all wheel drive and the ability to tow, the 500e is the one to choose.

The 500e is rated at 1,500kg braked and the 350e at 750kg. Lexus does not rate the 550e for towing at all, so if you need to tow, the 550e is not the version to order. Always check the figure for your specific trailer against the vehicle's own plated weights.

522 litres with the rear seats up and 1,451 litres with them folded, and that is the same on all three versions. The battery sits under the floor rather than eating into the load space, so you do not give anything up by choosing the more powerful versions.

It holds a five star Euro NCAP rating awarded in 2023, with 87 per cent for adult occupant protection, 87 per cent for child occupant protection, 84 per cent for vulnerable road users and 81 per cent for safety assistance. The car tested was the pre-update RZ 450e, and Euro NCAP has not published a new assessment for the 2026 version.

The 350e, at up to 346 miles. It is the least powerful and the only front wheel drive version, and it has 59 miles more range than the 550e on the identical battery. If range is what you are optimising for, the entry version is the answer.

In the UK, yes. The fully electric UX 300e was removed from sale in late 2025, which leaves the RZ as the only battery electric Lexus available here. The rest of the range is full hybrid or plug-in hybrid.

It is the best in the Lexus range for company car tax, because fully electric cars attract far lower Benefit in Kind than hybrids or petrol cars and the saving grows with the value of the car. Rates are set per tax year and rise on a published schedule, so check the current figure and have your accountant confirm your own position.

LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each of them prices the same car.
