Why Lease a Peugeot 308?

Because it offers more ways to power it than almost anything else in the class. The 308 is available as a 48 volt mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, a diesel, or the fully electric e-308, and in two body styles, a hatchback or the SW estate. Very few family cars still give you that much choice from one model.

The diesel is worth flagging straight away, because it goes against what most people assume. Peugeot had withdrawn diesel from the 308 and brought it back, with the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 returning from March 2026, so if you cover long motorway miles the option is there again. Among other badges, the Skoda Scala and the Citroen C4 are the two most people compare it against.

Which Peugeot 308 Powertrain?

Version What it is Power 0 to 62 Economy, range and CO2
1.2 Hybrid 14548V mild hybrid, nothing to plug in145bhp9.3sup to 62.6mpg, 110g/km
1.5 BlueHDi 130Diesel, automatic131bhp10.5saround 60mpg, 130g/km
1.6 Plug-in Hybrid 195Plug-in hybrid195bhp7.9s53 to 54 miles electric, 50 to 52g/km
e-308Fully electric156bhp9.8sup to 279 miles, 0g/km

The Hybrid 145 is the sensible default. It is a 48 volt mild hybrid, so there is nothing to plug in, and it returns up to 62.6mpg while being the quickest of the two non plug-in options. The diesel makes sense if you do serious motorway mileage and nothing else, because it is slower and dirtier on paper but will go a very long way between fills.

The plug-in hybrid is the most interesting one, and not only because it is the quickest. Its 53 to 54 miles of electric range is enough that a typical commute never touches the engine, and there is a company car tax point attached to it that is worth a section of its own below. The e-308 is the one to have if you can charge at home, at up to 279 miles and in the lowest tax band there is.

The Plug-in Hybrid, CO2 and Company Car Tax

If you looked at this car in early 2025 and are looking again now, the CO2 figure will have changed dramatically and the car has not. The 308 Plug-in Hybrid was quoted at 18g/km at UK launch and is now quoted at 50 to 52g/km. That is a rule change, not a worse car: a European emissions standard called Euro 6e-bis lowered the share of driving the test assumes you do on battery, which roughly tripled the quoted CO2 of every plug-in hybrid.

Because company car tax is set by CO2, that would have been very expensive for plug-in hybrid drivers. The Autumn Budget 2025 confirmed a measure to deal with it: an eligible plug-in hybrid is treated as 1g/km for Benefit in Kind purposes, applied back to 1 January 2025 and running to 5 April 2028, with transitional arrangements extending further for some cars.

Here is the part worth getting right before you order, and it is unusually specific. One of the eligibility conditions is that the car's quoted CO2 is 51g/km or more. The 308 Plug-in Hybrid is quoted at 50g/km on Allure and 51 to 52g/km on GT and GT Premium. So the entry trim sits a single gram below the threshold and the higher trims sit above it, which means the trim you choose may decide whether the car qualifies. There are other conditions too, covering the registration date, the emissions standard the car is registered under and its electric range. We are a credit broker rather than a tax adviser, and Benefit in Kind rates are set per tax year and change on a published schedule, so ask us for the CO2 on the exact derivative and let your accountant confirm the tax position. Our business leasing guides cover the groundwork.

The e-308 Range and Charging

The facelifted e-308 has a 58kWh battery, of which 55kWh is usable, up from 54kWh before, and the range went with it: 279 miles in the hatchback on Allure, 277 on GT, and 275 miles in the SW estate, dropping to 273 on SW GT Premium. It charges at up to 100kW on DC, taking around half an hour from 20 to 80 per cent, and it has an 11kW three phase on-board charger as standard, which is better than many rivals manage.

One change at the facelift that will matter if you have driven an older one: the "B" brake selector has gone, replaced by three levels of regenerative braking on paddles behind the steering wheel. It is a better system once you are used to it, but it is a different way of driving the car.

Boot Space and Towing

Version Seats up Seats folded
Hatchback, Hybrid 145 or diesel412 litres1,323 litres
Hatchback, Plug-in Hybrid361 litresNot published consistently
Hatchback, e-308361 litres1,258 litres
SW estate, e-308505 litres1,402 litres

So both electrified versions cost you about 51 litres against the mild hybrid and the diesel, and if boot space is the priority the SW estate is a very large step up at 505 litres. We have left the plug-in hybrid's seats folded figure blank rather than guess: two reputable sources give materially different numbers for it and we would rather tell you that than pick one.

On towing, the diesel is comfortably the best of the range at 1,550kg braked, with the Hybrid 145 at 1,150kg. We are not going to publish a figure for the plug-in hybrid or the e-308: the sources available disagree by a factor of two on the plug-in hybrid and no figure is published for the e-308 at all. If you tow, ask us and we will confirm it against the actual vehicle rather than send you off with a number we cannot stand behind. Always check against the vehicle's own plated weights and your licence category.

The i-Cockpit: Sit In One First

Peugeot's i-Cockpit puts a small steering wheel low in your lap with the instruments mounted high on the dash, so you look over the rim rather than through it. Plenty of drivers get on with it immediately. But on the 308, as on the 208, the criticism from UK reviewers is consistent and specific: Parkers notes that drivers "over a certain height ... can't see the dials because the top of the wheel is in the way", and Auto Express's reviewer of the facelifted e-308 in December 2025 recommended trying it before deciding. The one caveat we would put on any 308 quote is to go and sit in one, adjust the seat properly, and check you can see the instruments. It takes five minutes and it is the single most common reason people either love or reject this car. Worth knowing that Peugeot has fixed this on the newer 3008, where the display sits high enough to clear the wheel.

How Safe Is the Peugeot 308?

The 308 was awarded four stars by Euro NCAP, tested in 2022, with 76 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child occupant protection, 68 per cent for vulnerable road users and 65 per cent for safety assistance. Euro NCAP carried out additional tests so that the rating also covers the plug-in hybrid.

Unlike the 208, whose rating has lapsed, the 308's 2022 result is still current, since Euro NCAP ratings run for about six years. It is four stars rather than five though, and the 76 per cent for adult occupant protection is the weakest element and noticeably below what the best in this class achieve. If a five star rating is something you need to see, this is not the car that offers it.

Leasing a Peugeot 308

Two numbers drive most of your monthly cost: the initial rental and your annual mileage. A larger initial rental brings the monthly figure down, and the mileage you choose sets the contract. Excess mileage is charged at the end of the agreement, so give us the honest number rather than the optimistic one.

There are three trims, Allure, GT and GT Premium, across both the hatchback and the SW estate. Our pick is Allure on the e-308, because it is also the longest range version at 279 miles, and GT on the plug-in hybrid for the Benefit in Kind reason set out above. Trim names like Active, Tech Edition and GT Line belong to the superseded car.

One thing to watch when comparing quotes. The 308 was facelifted for the 2026 model year, with UK orders from November 2025, and the old derivatives are still in the trade data. If a listing shows a 54kWh e-308 or a range around 257 miles, it is the pre facelift car; the current one is 58kWh and 279 miles. A 1.2 PureTech 130 petrol is also the old car, since there is no plain petrol in the current range. Match the battery and the engine rather than the model name, and send anything that looks inconsistent over to us.

Peugeot 308 Leasing FAQs

Yes. The 1.5 BlueHDi 130 returned to the range, listed by Peugeot UK as available from March 2026, having previously been withdrawn. That makes the 308 the only one of the 208, 308 and 3008 that still offers a diesel.

Up to 279 miles in the hatchback on Allure trim, 277 on GT, and up to 275 miles in the SW estate. The facelift raised the battery from 54kWh to 58kWh, of which 55kWh is usable, which is what lifted the range from the previous 257 miles.

53 to 54 miles on the WLTP cycle from a 17.2kWh battery, of which 14.6kWh is usable. That is enough for most commutes without the engine starting, provided you charge it. It takes up to 7.4kW on AC.

Because of a European emissions standard called Euro 6e-bis, which lowered the share of driving the test assumes is done on battery. The car is unchanged. The quoted figure went from around 18g/km at launch to 50 to 52g/km now, and the same thing happened to every plug-in hybrid on sale.

Potentially yes, because the Autumn Budget 2025 confirmed that an eligible plug-in hybrid is treated as 1g/km for Benefit in Kind from 1 January 2025 to 5 April 2028. One condition is a quoted CO2 of 51g/km or more, and the 308 is 50g/km on Allure and 51 to 52g/km on GT and GT Premium, so the trim may decide whether it qualifies. Ask us for the exact figure and have your accountant confirm the position.

412 litres in the hatchback with the mild hybrid or diesel, rising to 1,323 litres folded. The plug-in hybrid and the e-308 both drop to 361 litres. The e-308 SW estate is much larger at 505 litres, or 1,402 litres with the seats folded.

The 1.5 BlueHDi diesel is rated at 1,550kg braked and the Hybrid 145 at 1,150kg. We will not quote a figure for the plug-in hybrid or the e-308, because the available sources disagree substantially on the plug-in hybrid and nothing is published for the electric version. Ask us and we will confirm against the actual vehicle.

No. The Hybrid 145 is a 48 volt mild hybrid with nothing to plug in. The separate Plug-in Hybrid 195 is the one you charge. There is no plain petrol 308 in the current range, so the 1.2 PureTech 130 you may see listed is the superseded car.

The vertical daytime running light bar became a three claw signature, three dimensional rear lights were extended to all trims, the e-308's battery grew from 54kWh to 58kWh with range up from 257 to 279 miles, and the "B" brake selector was replaced by three levels of regenerative braking on paddles. UK orders opened in November 2025.

Four stars from Euro NCAP, tested in 2022, with 76 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child, 68 per cent for vulnerable road users and 65 per cent for safety assistance. The rating is still current, unlike the 208's, and Euro NCAP's additional tests mean it covers the plug-in hybrid too.

Yes, as the 308 SW. It is considerably more practical, with the electric SW offering 505 litres against the hatchback's 361, and it is offered across the same Allure, GT and GT Premium trims.

LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each of them prices the same car.
