Why Lease a Toyota Proace City Verso?

There is a specific kind of family that nothing else quite serves: one that needs sliding side doors in a tight car park, a square boot that takes a buggy without negotiation, and the option of a third row, in a vehicle small enough to live on a normal street. That is exactly what this is, and since 2024 Toyota has sold it in the UK as a battery electric vehicle only.

Toyota calls it the Proace City Verso Electric, and you will also see Proace City Verso EV on price lists. Same car. It is the smaller of Toyota's two electric people carriers, the bigger one being the Proace Verso, which seats up to nine.

The Powertrain, and Being Honest About Range

A single 50kWh battery and one motor, but with three driver selectable output modes: Power at 100kW (136 DIN hp), Normal at 80kW and Eco at 60kW. Toyota quotes up to 213 miles on the official test, and on a rapid charger it takes 100kW for 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes. On AC it takes 11kW, which is about 4 and a half hours from a wallbox.

Here is the thing to be honest about, and it is the single most useful fact on this page. There is no bigger battery option, and the 213 mile official figure is a long way from what you will see. Auto Express tested one in cold weather and recorded 3.1 miles per kWh, which works out at around 155 miles in real use. That is still fine for a school run, a nursery run, a weekly shop and the occasional trip to see family two counties away. It is not fine if your week involves regular two hundred mile days, and because there is no larger pack you cannot buy your way out of it. If that is you, say so and we will point you at something else rather than sell you the wrong vehicle. The larger Proace Verso carries a 75kWh battery, and the wider Toyota range has longer legged options if passenger count is negotiable.

Seats, Lengths and Load Space

Two lengths, Short at 4,401mm and Long at 4,751mm, and two grades, Icon and Design. The seat count depends on a specific combination of the two:

  • Icon Long is the only seven seater. If that is why you are here, that is the one derivative that does it.
  • Icon Short and Design Short are five seaters. There is no Long body Design, so you cannot have seven seats with the higher grade.

On luggage, Toyota publishes two figures for each length because it measures to the belt line and again to the roof, with the rear seats in place. The Short gives 597 litres to the belt line and 983 to the roof. The Long gives 806 litres and 1,538. Those are not seats up versus seats down numbers, which is a mistake that is very easy to make when you see them written as a range, and Toyota does not publish a seats folded figure at all.

The second row can be specified as three individual seats or as a split bench, and Toyota says both arrangements have ISOFIX. If child seats are the deciding factor, tell us how many and where, and we will check the exact positions on the derivative you are quoted rather than guess.

Warranty, and the Battery Point

The vehicle comes with 3 years or 60,000 miles as standard, plus a year of roadside assistance. Toyota's Service Activated Warranty then adds a further 12 months or 10,000 miles each time it has an eligible service at an authorised Toyota dealer, up to a maximum of 10 years or 100,000 miles.

One thing you would never think to check. Toyota's Battery Care programme, the headline battery health guarantee it advertises on its electric cars, states in its own terms that "Toyota Proace vehicles are not eligible". So this vehicle does not get it, despite being fully electric, and plenty of comparison sites repeat the Battery Care claim across Toyota's whole electric range anyway. On a lease it matters much less than it would to an owner, since you hand the vehicle back long before degradation becomes your problem, but you should know rather than assume. Ask us and we will confirm exactly what battery cover your quoted derivative carries. If you want a Toyota that does get the full Battery Care guarantee, the bZ4X is the obvious comparison.

Toyota Proace City Verso Leasing FAQs

Five or seven. Seven seats come on one derivative only, the Icon in Long body. Both Short body versions, Icon and Design, are five seaters, and there is no Long body Design, so you cannot have seven seats with the higher grade.

Yes. Since 2024 Toyota has sold it in the UK as a battery electric vehicle only. There is no diesel or petrol version.

Toyota quotes up to 213 miles on the official test. In cold weather testing Auto Express recorded about 155 miles in real use, and there is no larger battery option to improve on it. Plan around the real world figure rather than the official one.

Up to 100kW on a DC rapid charger, which takes it from 10 to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes. On AC it takes 11kW, which is roughly four and a half hours from a wallbox, or about 30 hours from a domestic socket, so a wallbox is worth having.

350mm of length, all of it behind the rear axle. The Short gives 597 litres of luggage space measured to the belt line with the rear seats in place, and the Long gives 806 litres. The Long body is also the only way to get seven seats.

Icon and Design. There is no Design Premium or Excel on this vehicle, those are grades on the larger Proace Verso. If you see a "Shuttle" or "Family" grade quoted, those were the 2024 launch names and are no longer offered.

No. Toyota's Battery Care terms state that Proace vehicles are not eligible, even though this one is fully electric. The vehicle warranty is 3 years or 60,000 miles, extendable to a maximum of 10 years or 100,000 miles through Toyota dealer servicing. Ask us and we will confirm the battery cover on your quoted derivative.

LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each prices the same vehicle.
