Why Lease the Volkswagen Taigo?

The Taigo is the small Volkswagen SUV with the sloping roofline, and it exists because a lot of people want something that looks a bit more interesting than the sensible option without giving up the sensible option's running costs. It does that job well. The 440 litre boot is a strong figure for the class, rising to 1,222 litres with the 60/40 split bench folded.

Worth being honest about what it is, though, because it makes the choice easier rather than harder. The Taigo is built on the same underpinnings as the T-Cross, so the reason to choose one is the way it looks, not extra capability. If practicality is what you are optimising for, price the T-Cross alongside it. If you simply prefer the shape, that is a perfectly good reason and the Taigo gives up very little to deliver it.

Engines and Gearboxes

Three petrol engines, and the gearbox depends on which one you take.

  • 1.0 TSI 95PS with a five speed manual. Offered on Life only, so if you want the entry engine you take the entry trim with it.
  • 1.0 TSI 115PS with a six speed manual or the seven speed DSG automatic. The middle choice and the most flexible, since it is the only engine you can have either way.
  • 1.5 TSI 150PS with the seven speed DSG as standard. A four cylinder rather than a three, so it is noticeably smoother as well as quicker.

All petrol, with no hybrid or electric version in the Taigo range and no diesel. For most private drivers covering ordinary mileage that is not a problem, and the 1.0 TSI engines are economical in real use. If low company car tax is the priority, look at Volkswagen's electric models instead, and bear in mind rates change each tax year so take the current figures from your accountant.

Choosing Your Trim

Life

The starting point, and the only trim offered with the 95PS engine. A sensible place to begin if you want the car rather than the kit.

Match

Volkswagen's value grade, which bundles the options most buyers tick anyway. Usually better value than adding them one at a time.

Style

The comfort and equipment step, leaning towards the more premium end of the range rather than the sporting one.

Black Edition

Added in 2024 as the top trim, with the darker exterior treatment. On a car chosen for its looks, this is the one that commits to the idea.

Not every engine is offered with every trim, and equipment moves between model years. Tell us what you want on the car and we will check it against the specification you are quoted rather than going by the trim name alone.

Leasing the Volkswagen Taigo

Small Volkswagens lease well because funders know them, hold them in volume and price them keenly. The Taigo is also a sensible first SUV, since it is small enough to park and cheap enough to run while still feeling like a step up from a hatchback.

Set the mileage honestly rather than optimistically, because excess mileage at the end of a contract costs more than buying the miles at the start. Our leasing guides cover term and mileage, and business leasing explains the position if it is going through a company.

Volkswagen Taigo Leasing FAQs

They share their underpinnings, so mechanically they are closely related. The Taigo has the sloping coupe-SUV roofline and the T-Cross the conventional boxier shape. Choose the Taigo because you prefer how it looks, and the T-Cross if outright practicality matters more.

440 litres, which is good for a small SUV, rising to 1,222 litres with the 60/40 split rear bench folded down.

Three petrol engines. A 1.0 TSI 95PS with a five speed manual, offered on Life only. A 1.0 TSI 115PS with a six speed manual or the seven speed DSG. And a 1.5 TSI 150PS with the DSG as standard, which is a four cylinder and the smoothest of the three.

No. The Taigo is petrol only, with no hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric version and no diesel. If low company car tax is the driver, Volkswagen's electric models are where to look.

Life, Match, Style and Black Edition. Match is the value grade, Style the comfort step, and Black Edition sits at the top with the darker exterior treatment.

Yes, the seven speed DSG. It is optional on the 1.0 TSI 115PS and standard on the 1.5 TSI 150PS. The 95PS engine is manual only.

For a small family, yes, particularly with that 440 litre boot. If you regularly carry three in the back or need maximum headroom behind, look at the T-Cross or step up to the T-Roc, since the Taigo's roofline is the price you pay for the styling.

LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each prices the same car.
