MG has gone from a handful of cars to eleven models in a few years, and the range now covers everything from a supermini to a seven seat plug-in hybrid to a two seat electric convertible. The common thread is a seven year warranty, which is longer than almost anything else on the market.
The range moves quickly, which is worth knowing when you are reading reviews. The MG5 EV estate has gone, killed off by the MG4 according to MG's own product boss. The ZS is no longer electric at all. And there are now two cars wearing an IM badge that are sold through MG dealers. All of that has happened recently enough that plenty of comparison sites have not caught up.
| Model | What it is | Powertrain | Headline figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| MG3 | Supermini hatch | Petrol or full hybrid | 64.2mpg combined, hybrid |
| MG4 | Family hatch | Electric | Up to 338 miles |
| MG4 Urban | Compact hatch | Electric | Up to 258 miles |
| MGS5 EV | Compact SUV | Electric, rear wheel drive | Up to 299 miles |
| MGS6 EV | Mid sized SUV | Electric | Up to 329 miles |
| MGS9 | Seven seat SUV | Plug-in hybrid | 62 miles electric only |
| ZS | Small SUV | Petrol or full hybrid | 55.4mpg combined, hybrid |
| HS | Mid sized SUV | Petrol, hybrid or plug-in hybrid | 75 miles electric, plug-in |
| Cyberster | Two seat convertible | Electric | Up to 316 miles |
| MG IM5 | Executive saloon | Electric | Up to 441 miles |
| MG IM6 | Coupe SUV | Electric | Up to 338 miles |
Two points that trip people up. The MG4 Urban is a separate, smaller car sold alongside the MG4, not a trim of it. And the ZS is petrol or hybrid only: there is no electric ZS any more, and the MGS5 EV is the car that took its place.
This causes genuine confusion, so here it is plainly. IM is a separate brand owned by SAIC, the company that owns MG. The name stands for Intelligence in Motion. It was founded in 2020 and launched in China in 2022, and it came to the UK in 2025.
In practice, for you as a customer: the cars are sold through MG dealers, marketed as the MG IM5 and MG IM6, and serviced through the MG network. But they wear the IM logo rather than the MG octagon, which is the first thing you will notice when one turns up. If you were expecting an MG badge on the bonnet, that is worth knowing before delivery day rather than on it.
They are also the most capable cars MG sells. The IM5 is an executive saloon that does up to 441 miles with the larger battery, and the IM6 is the coupe SUV version of the same thing. Range figures for the IM6 are reported differently depending where you look, so ask us to confirm the WLTP figure on the exact derivative before you commit.
This is MG's strongest card and it is worth getting the detail right, because it is quoted loosely all over the internet.
The vehicle warranty is seven years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first, with no mileage limit at all in the first twelve months. It transfers to each new owner while it is unexpired, which matters to whoever has the car after you rather than to you directly, but it tells you something about how MG rates its own build. Anti perforation cover runs seven years, conditional on an annual MG bodywork inspection, and paint is covered for three years.
The high voltage battery has its own separate warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles, and it is triggered if capacity falls below 70 per cent of original, at which point MG either repairs the pack to restore capacity above that level or replaces it. One honest note: MG's own current warranty document would not open when we checked, so that battery term comes from an MG franchised dealer and a retailer rather than from MG directly. We will confirm the exact wording for you before you sign, which on a seven or eight year promise is worth doing properly.
We are going to be honest with you about the one thing that comes up again and again, because it is not a specification you can read off a sheet and it affects every day you drive the car.
The driver assistance systems are not well calibrated. Auto Express, reviewing the MG4 Urban in September 2026, called the driver monitoring system "infuriating", found the speed limit warnings sometimes simply wrong, and described the safety systems as intrusive and fiddly to switch off. MG also finished 29th of 30 brands in Auto Express's Driver Power 2026 owner survey.
That is not a reason to rule MG out. On value, equipment, warranty and electric range these cars are genuinely hard to beat, which is exactly why they sell. But if beeping, bonging driver aids are the sort of thing that would wear you down over three years, go and drive one for half an hour on a real road, including a stretch with variable speed limits, before you commit. We would rather you found that out on a test drive than in month two.
Seven of MG's eleven models are fully electric, which means they sit in the lowest company car tax band, and that is where MG's value proposition becomes genuinely compelling on a business lease. A driver can end up in a well equipped electric SUV for a monthly tax cost that would barely cover a small petrol hatchback. Those bands change each tax year, so take the current figures from your accountant.
The MGS9 is worth a look if you need seven seats and cannot go fully electric, since a plug-in hybrid with 62 miles of electric range covers most commutes without the engine starting. And if you want to see how MG compares against the rest of the electric market on a salary sacrifice scheme, tell us your mileage and we will put the shortlist together honestly, including the cars that beat it.

Eleven. The MG3, MG4, MG4 Urban, MGS5 EV, MGS6 EV, MGS9, ZS, HS, Cyberster, and the MG IM5 and MG IM6. Seven of them are fully electric, the MG3, ZS and HS offer petrol or hybrid power, and the MGS9 and HS offer plug-in hybrids.
No. The second generation ZS dropped the electric powertrain completely, so the ZS is petrol or full hybrid only. The MGS5 EV is the car that took its place in the range, and it is rear wheel drive with up to 299 miles.
It has been withdrawn and is not replaced. MG's own product boss put it plainly: as soon as the MG4 arrived, it killed the MG5. If you were looking for an affordable electric estate, there is no direct successor in the range.

The MG IM5 with the larger battery, at up to 441 miles. After that the MG4 and the IM6 at up to 338 miles, the MGS6 EV at up to 329, the Cyberster at up to 316 and the MGS5 EV at up to 299.
Yes, the MGS9, which is a plug-in hybrid with 62 miles of electric range and has been in dealerships since March 2026. It is the only seven seater in the range.

LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each prices the same car.
