Compare live Peugeot 408 lease deals below from an independent, whole of market broker. A fastback styled family car offered as a mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid with 50 electric miles, or the fully electric E-408. Compare it with the 308, the 3008 SUV, or the rest of the Peugeot range.
Peugeot calls the 408 a fastback, and that is the right word for it. It sits lower than an SUV, it has a long sloping roofline into a short rear deck, and it is aimed at people who want something that looks like nothing else on the school run. It is not a saloon and it is not a crossover, which matters when you are searching, because listings file it under all three.
It arrived in 2022 and was facelifted for 2026, with UK pricing and specification announced in May that year. The changes are mostly at the front: a resculpted grille, lower set headlights, the three claw daytime running lights Peugeot now uses across the range, and illuminated lettering on the bootlid on upper trims. The more useful change was underneath, where the plug-in hybrid gained a bigger battery.
| Version | What it is | Electric range | Economy or CO2 | Towing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hybrid 145 e-DSC6 | 48V mild hybrid, nothing to plug in | None | 113 to 114g/km | 1,300kg |
| Plug-in Hybrid 240 e-DSC7 | Plug-in hybrid, 14.6kWh usable | 50 miles | 56 to 59g/km | Not published |
| E-408 Electric 210 | Fully electric, 58.2kWh usable | up to 283 miles | 0g/km | Not published |
There is no diesel and no plain petrol 408. Worth saying because the 308 brought a diesel back in March 2026 and the 408 did not, so the two cars no longer share an engine range. The old PureTech 130 petrol and the previous Hybrid 180 and 225 have all been withdrawn.
As with every Peugeot, read the badge rather than the word. The Hybrid 145 is a 48 volt mild hybrid with nothing to plug in, and it will not run on electricity in any meaningful way. The Plug-in Hybrid 240 is the one you charge, and the E-408 is the fully electric car.
If you looked at a 408 plug-in hybrid a couple of years ago, this will not make sense at first. The car has got better and its CO2 figure has got worse, by roughly double.
| Previous Plug-in Hybrid 225 | Current Plug-in Hybrid 240 | |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 12.4kWh | 14.6kWh usable |
| Electric range | 34 miles | 50 miles |
| Quoted CO2 | 31g/km | 56 to 59g/km |
A bigger battery and 16 more electric miles should push a CO2 figure down, not up. The explanation is a European emissions standard called Euro 6e-bis, which lowered the share of driving the official test assumes you do on battery power. It has moved the quoted CO2 of plug-in hybrids across the market, and it has nothing to do with how the car actually performs.
Here is the part that is worth knowing if this is a company car, because the usual assumption is backwards. Benefit in Kind is set by CO2, so a higher figure normally costs you more. The Autumn Budget 2025 confirmed a measure that treats an eligible plug-in hybrid as 1g/km for Benefit in Kind, applied back to 1 January 2025 and running to 5 April 2028, with transitional arrangements extending further for some cars. One of the conditions is a quoted CO2 figure of 51g/km or more, and at 56 to 59g/km the 408 Plug-in Hybrid clears that threshold where plug-in hybrids quoted in the 20s and 40s sit below it. There are further conditions covering the registration date, the emissions standard the car is registered under and its electric range. Benefit in Kind rates are set per tax year and change on a published schedule, and we are a credit broker rather than a tax adviser, so ask us for the CO2 on the exact derivative and have your accountant confirm the position. Our business leasing guides cover the groundwork.
The mild hybrid has the biggest boot at 536 litres, rising to 1,611 litres with the rear seats down. Both electrified versions come down to 471 litres and 1,545 litres, so the plug-in hybrid and the E-408 each give up 65 litres to make room for a battery.
One detail worth catching before you order: on the E-408 the FOCAL hi-fi option costs a further 17 litres, bringing the boot to 454 litres, because the subwoofer sits in the boot floor. Every 408 is a five seater. If you need seven, that is the 5008.
Four stars from Euro NCAP, published in December 2022, with 76 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child occupant protection, 78 per cent for vulnerable road users and 65 per cent for safety assistance. Euro NCAP ratings run for six years, so this one stands until the end of 2028.
Two things about that result are worth knowing, and most pages do not mention either. The first is that Euro NCAP did not crash a 408. It tested a Peugeot 308, then applied the result to the 408 as a partner model after additional verification tests, on the basis that the two cars share their structure. Euro NCAP's datasheet states the rating applies to all 408s. The second is that the test predates the 2026 facelift entirely, and the variants table on that rating lists only the Hybrid 180 and the PureTech 130, both of which have since been withdrawn.
None of that makes the car unsafe, and 78 per cent for vulnerable road users is a solid modern score. It does mean the rating is a four year old result on a related car rather than a fresh test of what you would be leasing, and if that matters to you it is worth knowing before rather than after.
The mild hybrid tows 1,300kg braked, which is enough for a small caravan or a mid sized trailer.
For the Plug-in Hybrid 240 and the E-408, Peugeot does not publish a braked towing figure at all, and we are not going to invent one. The superseded plug-in hybrid was rated at 1,400kg, but the facelift changed both the battery and the gearbox, so carrying that number across would be guesswork. If you need to tow with either of the electrified versions, ask us and we will get the figure confirmed for the exact derivative before you commit to anything. Always check against the vehicle's own plated weights as well.
Two numbers drive most of your monthly cost: the initial rental and your annual mileage. A larger initial rental brings the monthly figure down, and the mileage you choose sets the contract. Excess mileage is charged at the end of the agreement, so give us the honest number rather than the optimistic one.
If you are weighing the electric version against the others, our guide to the cost of leasing an electric car sets out what else to budget for, and you can compare the class on our electric car leasing pages. The E-408 qualifies for the Electric Car Grant in Band 2, which Peugeot UK confirmed in August 2025 and which applies across the trim range. Peugeot covers the car for three years, with unlimited mileage in the first two and a mileage cap in the third, and the traction battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.
On trims, Peugeot has been moving its range around through 2026 and the published names do not currently agree with each other, with Allure and GT appearing both plainly and with a Plus suffix depending on where you look. Rather than print a list that may be wrong, tell us what equipment matters to you and we will confirm the exact trim and specification on the quote.
Two tells for reading listings. Any 408 showing a PureTech 130 or a Hybrid 180 is a pre facelift car on a withdrawn engine. And a Plug-in Hybrid 225 and a Plug-in Hybrid 240 may be the same car: Peugeot renamed its plug-in hybrids in April 2026 to quote combined engine and motor output under a new protocol, with no mechanical change at all. Send anything that looks inconsistent over to us and we will check it against the current data.

Neither. Peugeot calls it a fastback, which means a low slung body with a long sloping roofline into a short rear deck. It sits lower than the 3008 SUV and is longer and sleeker than the 308 hatchback. Listings file it variously as a saloon, a crossover and an SUV, so search by name rather than by bodystyle.
No. There is no diesel and no plain petrol 408. The range is a 48 volt mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and the fully electric E-408. This is worth checking if you were comparing it with the 308, because the 308 brought a diesel back in March 2026 and the 408 did not.
Up to 50 miles on the WLTP cycle, or 49 miles on GT Premium, from a 14.6kWh usable battery. That is up from 34 miles on the previous version, because the 2026 facelift fitted a bigger pack. A 7.4kW on board charger is standard on GT Premium.
Because of a European emissions standard called Euro 6e-bis, which lowered the share of driving the official test assumes is done on battery power. The previous version was quoted at 31g/km and the current one at 56 to 59g/km, even though the current car has a bigger battery and 16 more electric miles. The change is in the measurement, not the car, and it has affected plug-in hybrids across the market.
Not necessarily, and this is the part that surprises people. The Autumn Budget 2025 confirmed a measure treating an eligible plug-in hybrid as 1g/km for Benefit in Kind, and one of its conditions is a quoted CO2 figure of 51g/km or more. At 56 to 59g/km the 408 Plug-in Hybrid clears that threshold where plug-in hybrids quoted lower do not. There are further conditions on registration date, emissions standard and electric range, rates are set per tax year, and we are a credit broker rather than a tax adviser, so have your accountant confirm your own position.
Up to 283 miles on the WLTP cycle from a 58.2kWh usable battery, or 281 miles on GT Premium where the larger wheels cost a little efficiency. The E-408 also qualifies for the Electric Car Grant in Band 2, which Peugeot confirmed in August 2025.
536 litres on the mild hybrid, rising to 1,611 litres with the rear seats folded. The plug-in hybrid and the electric E-408 both come down to 471 litres and 1,545 litres, giving up 65 litres to the battery. On the E-408 the optional FOCAL hi-fi costs a further 17 litres, taking it to 454 litres, because the subwoofer sits in the boot floor.
The mild hybrid tows 1,300kg braked. Peugeot does not publish a braked towing figure for either the Plug-in Hybrid 240 or the electric E-408, and we would rather tell you that than quote a number we cannot stand behind. If you need to tow with one of the electrified versions, ask us and we will have the figure confirmed for the exact derivative first. Check the vehicle's own plated weights too.
Four stars from Euro NCAP, published in December 2022, with 76 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child, 78 per cent for vulnerable road users and 65 per cent for safety assistance. The rating runs to the end of 2028. Two caveats worth knowing: Euro NCAP tested a Peugeot 308 and applied the result to the 408 as a partner model rather than crashing a 408 itself, and the test predates the 2026 facelift.
Because Peugeot renamed its plug-in hybrids on 20 April 2026 to quote combined engine and motor output under a new European protocol. There was no mechanical change. The 408 went from 225 to 240 on paper alone, and the 3008 and 5008 went from 195 to 225 the same way. If you see both, they may well be the same car.
Five, on every version. The 408 is not offered as a seven seater in any form. If you need seven seats from Peugeot, that is the 5008, which offers them on the mild hybrid, the plug-in hybrid and all three electric versions.
LetsLease is a credit broker rather than the lender. We arrange the agreement and place it with a funder such as Lex Autolease, Novuna, Ayvens or Santander, and that funder owns the vehicle and holds the agreement with you. Because we work across several funders rather than one, we can compare how each of them prices the same car.
